I know there are amazing articles out there even more excellently and profoundly written on this subject than this one. And at the end I'll have some links to them, so consider this an appetizer.
Adoption. We hear that word and one of the worst things we do as the body of Christ is we say "Oh, that's nice" or even "That's awesome!" then we walk away and that's the end of it. We go to lunch, go watch TV, and it never crosses our mind again. Adoption isn't just "nice", it isn't just "awesome", it's our responsibility as the Body of Christ. Catch that word, responsibility. Not option, not good idea, responsibility. Now let me start off with the fact that not everyone is called to adopt, as in not everyone will legally bring the child to stay in their home. But if your one who just let out a sigh of relief and felt the weight fall off your shoulders, you may want to check with Jesus and make sure your in that minority before you settle it in your mind. The weight of the Cross bears down on this issue way more than we talk about in the church. Many, many times in the scriptures it talks about our responsibility to take in the orphan. There are stories like Esther, the adopted daughter who saved her entire nation from annihilation. Samuel who was adopted by Eli, turned the nation of Israel and anointed David king. The list goes on and on.
One of the major arguments from the Pro-Choice community is if we (Pro-Lifers) win this battle, what will we do with all the unwanted babies? What will we do?? We are answerable to this! We have to give the better alternative that abortion. Yeah, it's nice when one family adopts a kid or two or more. But should only a minority of the Body of Christ bear the majority or that load. Let me make my next point extremely clear.
If you are serious about seeing the end of abortion, you will get just as serious about
funding adoption.
It's not enough to think it's good when someone adopts, we must act. Whether you adopt a child into your home, foster a child, or give donations to those who are, we must take adoption seriously. Really, if you don't think that you are called to adopt, give to those who are. There are missionaries up here at IHOP-KC whose mission is to adopt and support adoptions. Families of 7 or more and growing. They are literally taking in the unwanted, those who would have been aborted otherwise. I'm sure there are probably some people near you as well. This is how we redeem the Earth. One child at a time. One Planned Parenthood official recently said the Pro-Life community only cares about the children when their in the womb but could care less afterward. What do we have to answer to this? It's not enough to point to someone we know who adopts and say "Hey, they're taking care of it, so there." They need help. Both financially and with prayer, working with them, they need help. For those out there who have adopted THANK YOU!!!!! Leah and I cannot wait and look forward to joining your ranks.
Imagine, you could change the world by bringing one child into your home as a part of your family. You could start on the process of redeeming the Earth. You could change future generations.
